Every time I told someone I went to Italy for spring break, the response was "OMG you must have eaten amazing food." Nobody cared about the breath taking views in Como, or the wine touring in Francia Corta, or the cute little neighborhoods of Verona. I get it though, Italy just instantly is associated with the food, and I don't mind talking about all the carbs I consumed.
So, then I proceeded to tell them about my favorite dishes. It's funny though because with each consecutive meal, we would all be astounded and say this is the best pasta/pizza/dish we've had so far. So really, all meals were amazing in their own ways. I'm going to share some pictures of my top 5 "favorite" dishes (in no particular order, because that's just too much pressure) with a description of what they are.
Warning: it might make you really jealous and hungry.
Margarita Pizza from Pizza Am in Milan, Italy. Three girls, three pizzas, no crumbs left behind.
Meat and cheese plate with honey, nuts, and dried fruit. And a piadina (basically a pizza quesadilla) from Verenna, Italy. This lunch was surrounded by the Italian and Swiss alps, so not only was it great food, but great views too.
A chocolate covered, nutella filled croissant from the oldest bakery in Verona, Italy. This was course #1 (of 5...) of our walking food tour around the city. It was our last day of vacation, so I clearly went big. Go big or go home right? Sadly, I went big and still had to go home.
Don't even know what to call these, but basically they are savory donut sandwiches stuffed with 1) mozzarella and tomatoes, 2) ricotta and spinach and 3) ham and mozzarella. I could go to the little Luini shop in Milan every day all day.
Pasta Carbonara from Verona, Italy. You know this is the real deal when it comes with an over-easy poached egg that you get to mix into the pasta yourself... *yoke porn*
Ok go get yourself some pasta or pizza now. I won't judge.
