Two words: 1. Pizza 2. London. You would think these are paradoxical words, or at least I did. When I think about London food I think about bar/pub food and potatoes. Yes that's very stereotypical, but that's all people in the U.S talk about! Little did I know that London is the most diverse city in the world, and they have food from all over the world. More specifically, they have a TON of Italian restaurants and by that I mean they have a TON of PIZZA! Not just regular greasy bar food pizza, but authentic, brick-oven, homemade pizza.
The second night I was here my whole program went out for dinner at Santore, a small Italian restaurant, and we were all shocked by what they put in front of our faces. Literally in front of our faces... on risers... at eye level... were meter long (over 3 feet long) pizzas. For 20 of us, they gave us 5 pizzas, for a total of about 16 feet of dough that stretched all the way across the long table we sat at. Each pizza had four different sections: pepperoni, vegetable, prosciutto, and a section with pieces of everything mixed in one.
Nobody could stop eating because of how amazing it was, and it definitely didn't help that the pizza was at eye level! You just could't leave it sitting there when all you could do was look at it...
I'm so excited about trying all the different cuisines now that I know that they can master the Italian cuisine, which is very hard to do. I hear that London has the second best Indian food in the world (besides India of course) and I think I may have to try it. I've never been a fan of curry, but I've never had authentic Indian food before. If there is any place to try it, it's here, so I have to do it. Along with all the different cultures, I of course am going to try out London's staple "fish and chips" because that would be a sin if I didn't.
Look out for a post about these highly anticipated meals!
