We all have some easy, on the go breakfasts that we grab daily. Some of those include: eggs, cereal, oatmeal, fruit, protein shakes, or sometimes just coffee. All of these options have one thing in common- they aren't well balanced. Fruit, oatmeal and cereal are carb and sugar heavy; protein shakes are clearly protein heavy; eggs have the fats covered. But how about a breakfast that has ALL three macronutrients combined and leaves you satisfied for the whole morning and well into lunch time?
This breakfast ^^^ is a perfect example of what a well-rounded breakfast should look like. It has straight protein from the 3-4oz chicken, healthy fats and protein from the 1-2 eggs, and fats and carbs from the 1/3 of an avocado.
I know what you're thinking: (1) it's weird to have chicken for breakfast and (2) that seems like a lot of work. BUT I can combat both objectives. (1) why is it weird to have chicken, but we have sausage, pork, salmon and other meats for breakfast/brunch??? and (2) MEAL PREP makes everything super easy; buy a rotisserie chicken, hard boil some eggs and stock up on avocados on Sunday and you're set for a week of breakfasts.
Spice it up!!! Add some red pepper flakes to the avocado, some salt and pepper to the eggs, and sriracha or ketchup for the chicken/eggs!
Other great combinations of macronutrients that I make on the reg are:
- Steal cut oats with half a scoop of protein powder, 1/2 cup of blueberries and 1 tbsp sliced almonds on top (serves 1)
- Baked oatmeal with almond milk, cinnamon, 1 banana, 3 tbsp flax seed, 3 tbsp pecans (serves 4)
