Fitness Crazed Foodie
Lover of all things food and fitness related
As we all know, the holidays are filled with dessert after dessert. I have a love-hate relationship with this because my gigantic sweet tooth will not let me just have one dessert. Instead, it makes me (I swear, it's not my fault...) have handful after handful and cookie after cookie. So, to combat this battle between "one dessert is enough" and "it's the holidays, keep eating!", I have come up with a healthy dessert recipe to bring to any holiday occasion. You can impress all the holiday party-goers with the beautiful, healthy and delicious Apple Pastry Roses!
There are many variations of this dessert on the internet, but my recipe is the healthier version, without any butter and limited added sugar. It also calls for the least amount of ingredients, saving you some cals and $$$- double whammy.
2 large red apples
1 frozen puff pastry sheet
Once the puff pastry sheet is thawed, roll out with a rolling pin to stretch it a little. Make sure it is not too thin that it will create holes when rolled up. With a pizza cutter, cut the sheet horizontally into 6 strips. Brush strips with water and sprinkle with brown sugar. The amount of sweetness depends on how much brown sugar you add! Totally up to you, but I used about 1 tbsp for each strip.
Drain the apples in a strainer. Then, place the slices on the top half of the strip so that half of each apple slice sticks out from the top. Use this website for exact instructions for this part. She has really good pictures to help!
Once apple slices are lined up across the strip, roll it up and place into a cupcake baking pan. Do this for all 6 strips of puff pastry. Bake these in the oven at 375 for 40-45 minutes.
Wallahhh! You have a simple, healthy dessert that looks like a professional chef made it! The reason why I made these in the first place was because of how pretty they look, but I'm sharing it with you because of how delicious they turned out to bel!
